For School Counselors
Nomination Procedures
Dear School Counselors:
As the directors of Character Camp, Erik and I are really excited to be able to bring 60 of our finest High School students across our state of Pennsylvania to attend the 4th Annual Character Camp! Thanks to our sponsors, we are able to offer half "characterships" to two primary types of students:
- Students who have already demonstrated strong character traits and are emerging leaders
- Resilient students who come from a lower socio-economic background but have displayed a positive attitude and strong work ethic
We are also looking for a select group of student leaders (approximately 10 out of the 60 campers) to lead the "Character Teams" through the various breakout sessions. Therefore, out of the students you nominate, please also identify entering 11th or 12th graders who you would recommend as one of the 10 Character Leaders.
Erik and I realize that the success of Character Camp depends greatly on the partnerships we form with you in identifying character campers. Below are the steps for nominating and registering students.
- Identify 5-10 students (entering 9th-12th grades) to nominate, keeping in mind the two primary types of students mentioned above.
- Within your list of nominees, remember to nominate any entering 11th and 12th graders who would serve as good small-group leaders.
- Email Bob Orndorff, Co-Director, the following information:
- Names of student nominees
- Mailing Addresses of each nominee
- Names of parents (we want to send a letter to the parents to congratulate them on their child's nomination and to provide them with a brief overview of the camp)
- Why he/she deserves a charactership
- Indicate those who you recommend to be a leader and why
- Meet with each nominee to go over the following information:
- Congratulate them on their nomination
- Provide an overview of the Camp (show them this web site) and explain why they've been nominated
- Give each student a printed registration form (PDF) to fill out
- Encourage the students to complete the registration form and return it, along with the $125 registration fee, to you ASAP
- Remind the students that there are only 60 spots available, and that nominated students will be selected to attend on a first-come, first-served basis
- Clarify the $125 registration fee. (Please make checks payable to "JAZ Consulting"). This is the only fee the campers will pay. They receive a "Charactership" - a $200 value - that pays for the camp. Note: May 17, 2009 is the last day that a student can cancel and receive the $125 refund.
- Inform the students that an official letter of congratulations from the co-directors of the camp is being mailed to their parents, but to proceed with the registration form
- As you receive completed applications from your nominees (completed and signed registration form and $125 registration fee), please mail the applications to:
